First Fridays: Andrew Sords and Elizabeth DeMio

Following a decade in the spotlight, American violinist Andrew Sords has garnered accolades on four continents for his performances combining visceral virtuosity and ravishing tone. Elizabeth DeMio is well known as a collaborative pianist, recitalist and soloist in the Cleveland area. Andrew and Elizabeth visited the KeyBank Studio for an hour of music and conversation with WCLV's Angela Mitchell.

First Fridays: in2ative

This episode of First Fridays featured in2ative, made up of Kimberly Zaleski and Trevor Kazarian. Classically trained at the Cleveland Institute of Music, this avant-garde flute/cello duo specializes in an array of musical genres ranging from alternative rock to improvisational jazz and classical. They visited the KeyBank studio for an hour of original music and conversation, hosted by Angela Mitchell.

First Fridays: Cavani String Quartet

The Cavani String Quartet has recently welcomed a new violist, Eric Wong. He and violinists Annie Fullard and Mari Sato were also joined by guest cellist Jia Kim in this episode of First Fridays.

First Fridays: Gruca White Ensemble

On this episode of First Fridays, the Gruca White Ensemble joined WCLV's Angela Mitchell in the KeyBank Studio. Classical guitarist Robert Gruca and flutist Linda White offer an entirely new concert experience by alternating the best of the flute and guitar repertoire, their own arrangements of latin, jazz, and rock tunes, and short impromptus.

First Fridays: Stars in the Classics

M.U.S.i.C. (Musical Upcoming Stars in the Classics) is a non-profit organization committed to providing intimate performance opportunities for emerging, world class musicians in Northeast Ohio and beyond. On First Fridays, they performed selections by Glière, Schubert, Handel, Moszkowski, Weill, and Schoenfield.

Opera Encore: Cleveland Opera Theater performs selections from "La Bohème"

On Opera Encore (so named because it aired on WCLV immediately after the Metropolitan Opera broadcast), singers from Cleveland Opera Theater performed selections from Puccini's La Bohème and chatted with WCLV's Angela Mitchell. 

First Fridays: members of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra

For this episode of First Fridays, Angela Mitchell welcomed members of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra and their mentors from The Cleveland Orchestra. These students were all selected to participate in the COYO Advanced Performance Seminar, in which they work intensely on chamber music.

First Fridays: All-Bach with Arts Renaissance Tremont

To celebrate Johann Sebastian Bach's upcoming 331st birthday, WCLV presented an hour of live music on this episode of First Fridays. This was in conjunction with Arts Renaissance Tremont's upcoming program, "Bach Birthday Celebration" on Sunday, March 20 at 3:00 p.m. at  Pilgrim Congregational Church, 2592 West 14th Street in Tremont. Angela Mitchell hosted.

First Fridays: Ensemble HD

Ensemble HD's mission is to bring classical music to a wide audience, and what better place to do that than at the Happy Dog? That's where they got their name, and today they brought the show to the KeyBank Studio, hosted by Angela Mitchell. Star Wars: The Score Awakens

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is already the biggest movie of all time in the United States. The soundtrack is an original score by John Williams, who has written the music for all 7 Star Wars movies, plus other classics like Indiana Jones, E.T., Home Alone, and many, many more. Brett Mitchell, Associate Conductor of The Cleveland Orchestra, is a die-hard fan of John Williams and Star Wars, so WCLV invited him to the KeyBank Studio to take us through the score.

First Fridays: Factory Seconds

Jack Sutte, trumpet, Rick Stout, trombone, and Jesse McCormick, french horn, are all Cleveland Orchestra musicians who serve as second players in their sections. They joined WCLV's Angela Mitchell for an hour of music and conversation on the latest episode of First Fridays.

Cleveland Ovations: BlueWater Chamber Orchestra

WCLV is pleased to add the BlueWater Chamber Orchestra to the Cleveland Ovations line-up. Their season opener featured guitarist Jason Vieaux in Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez. This concert is a continuation of their “Near West Neighborhood Series” with thrilling music of Spanish and Latino heritage. Artistic Director Carlton R. Woods conducted. Angela Mitchell produced and hosted the broadcast.

First Fridays: Classical Revolution Cleveland

Classical Revolution Cleveland is a collective of young musicians who live and work in Northeast Ohio. Nine of them came to WCLV to perform live on First Fridays, in the Idea Center at Playhouse Square. Angela Mitchell hosted.

Pianist Lara Downes visited the KeyBank Studio to perform selections from her recent releases, "A Billie Holiday Songbook" and "Exiles' Café," plus George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue."
