The Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra is one of the finest youth orchestras in the nation. Members receive regular coaching from The Cleveland Orchestra musicians and are led by Music Director Brett Mitchell. In addition to playing in the orchestra, students participate in a chamber music program. They performed selections of what they've been working on in this edition of Live from KeyBank Studio.
Live from KeyBank Studio: Cavatina Duo
The Cavatina Duo is the husband and wife team of flutist Eugenia Moliner from Spain and guitarist Denis Azabagic from Bosnia. They visited WCLV to perform live in the KeyBank Studio, and talked about their unique partnership, the different audiences they've encountered all over the world, and working with living composers.
Live from KeyBank Studio: Classical Revolution Cleveland
Classical Revolution Cleveland is a loosely bound group of classically trained musicians who all have one thing in common: they love performing in unusual and non-traditional formats around Cleveland. Ariel Clayton is the director of Classical Revolution Cleveland and plays violin.
Nine members of the group join Angela Mitchell in the KeyBank Studio today, performing works by Dohnanyi, Cassado, Ibert, and Brahms.

Cleveland Ovations: Quire Cleveland and the Land of Harmony
CWRU music professor Ross W. Duffin has made his name as a scholar in several fields, among them, fifteenth-century Franco-Flemish music, English music of the Jacobean period and the study of historical tuning systems. Recently, though, he’s become fascinated with early American music, a subject he explored with the professional singers of Quire Cleveland in “The Land of Harmony: American Choral Gems from The Bay Psalm Book to Amy Beach."
Live from KeyBank Studio: cellist Brian Thornton
Brian Thornton is a musician of many interests. As cellist and conductor, he has performed in hundreds of venues across the world, from The White House in Washington,D.C., to the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, China. He has performed as soloist with over 30 orchestras, and conducts his own ensemble located in Solon, Ohio. Brian has premiered over 100 new works, either as a soloist or in chamber ensembles. Evenings are spent performing with the world-renowned Cleveland Orchestra, where he has been in the cello section for 19 years.
In this Live from KeyBank Studio session, Brian shares news about the Lev Aronson Festival, which he founded, and performs works by Bach and Paganini.
Live from KeyBank Studio: Opera per Tutti
Angela Mitchell welcomes four singers and a pianist to the KeyBank Studio. Opera per Tutti, the resident opera company of Cleveland Public Theatre, is about to open its 9th season. The singers are sopranos Andrea Anelli and Rebecca Freshwater, tenor John David Nevergall, baritone Benjamin Czarnota, and pianist Jeanette Davis. They perform arias and duets from La Traviata, Suor Angelica, Faust, Phantom of the Opera, and more. Pirates of Penzance opens September 12.
Live from KeyBank Studio: violinist Sonja Molloy and the Amati Ex-Hepton violin
Joining Angela Mitchell in the KeyBank Studio are violinist Sonja Molloy, instructor at The Music Settlement and member of the second violin section at The Cleveland Orchestra; pianist Alicja Basinska; Charlie Lawrence, president and CEO of The Music Settlement; and Megan Clay Constantine, chair of the Center for Music.
The Music Settlement recently acquired the Amati “Ex-Hepton” violin, which was built in 1665 by Nicholo Amati. Charlie and Megan explain how this priceless instrument came into the Settlement’s possession, and Sonja and Alicja perform Stravinsky's Suite Italienne, Bolcom's Graceful Ghost, and more.
