Debut with the Akron Symphony

Angela Mitchell will make her debut with the Akron Symphony, serving as host and soloist in a pair of educational concerts. The program, called "Link Up: The Orchestra Sings," is in partnership with Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute. Link Up pairs orchestras across the country with schools in their local communities. It’s a highly participatory program that invites students to learn about orchestral repertoire through a yearlong, hands-on music curriculum. The collaboration will culminate with two performances at the Akron Civic Theater on March 8, 2016 at 9:45 and 11:15 a.m. The concerts, hosted by Angela Mitchell, will provide students the opportunity to sing and play the recorder along with the Akron Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Assistant Conductor Jacob Sustaita. Students will perform music by Beethoven, Copland and Dvorak, and participate in a choreographed Latin-flavored piece called “Oye.”
